*_"And the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings. The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out" (Leviticus 6:12-13)._*
The instruction was given to the priest in the Old Testament, but it was also for our benefit because in the New Testament this altar is the human heart; this is where the presence of God resides. The fire came into your heart the day you were filled with the Holy Ghost. This is the presence that makes you more than a man, giving you divine energy on the inside; it's the sanctifying fire. This is what makes your words more than the words of a man, and puts life in the gospel you preach. This fire must burn on the altar of your soul perpetually.
*_"That is why I should remind you to stir up, rekindle the embers of; fan the flame of, and keep burning the gracious gift of God; the inner fire that is in you..."_* (2 Timothy 1:6 AMP). There is an inner fire, which must be fanned because its tendency is to burn out: fire burns to quench. Without the Holy Ghost, it is absolutely impossible for any Christian to face the world. Before God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, their lawless and ungodly ways had started taking its toll on Lot's righteous soul; his soul was vexed, his fire started to wane (2 Peter 2:6-8 AMP).
This is what the devil wants to achieve today, the movies you watch, the books, the newspapers and the magazines you read could reduce the anointing upon your life, and wear you out spiritually. You have to get yourself re-charged in the Holy Ghost everyday otherwise what happened to Lot could happen to you too. John Wesley's daily prayer was *"Lord keep your fire burning upon the altar of my heart, and stir up thy gift in me";* he was called the evangelist with a burning heart. Thank God we can also stir up the fire of the Spirit within us by praying in the Holy Ghost and living in the Word.
